Macro Launches Technology Division to Help Processors Optimize Production

Extrusion systems manufacturer Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. has created a new division dedicated to helping processors improve their film and sheet extrusion operations through a range of consultation and service based products.

Macro’s newly formed Technology Division is geared towards providing technical expertise and resources for increasing operational performance for blown and cast extrusion systems and web handling machinery. The group will expand on Macro’s current service offering to include comprehensive system audits on any film or sheet extrusion system or winding operation, system retrofit services, and troubleshooting. These services are available for any OEM’s machinery as they are not limited to Macro-built systems.

In addition to these systems and components services, Macro’s Technology Division will also be responsible for offering product and process development services. Recent organizational restructuring at Macro has nested the company’s R&D Group within the Technology Division, providing a valuable resource for processors working to develop new products such as multilayer film structures, or creating alternate processing methods to achieve desired product properties. Macro’s Film Development Centre, located at the company’s headquarters near Toronto, Canada, serves as a key resource to Macro’s R&D Group. It is outfitted with a mono/3-layer blown film line, a 5-layer double-bubble line and a monolayer cast film line equipped with interchangeable casting modules (roll vs. water quenching). Also available through the R&D Group is comprehensive simulation software that can be used to reduce cost and time to market for new film structures and improve die and feedscrew design and performance.

The new division will be headed up by Macro’s Technology Director, Dr. Felix Guberman. “We have a strong history of helping our customers meet challenging production goals by custom designing our machinery to suit their needs”, states Dr. Guberman. “We want to extend this service to those seeking to do more with the machinery they already have and provide processors with a means to improve their production with less capital investment.”

Macro has an expertise in producing systems for barrier films incorporating Nylon, EVOH, and PVdC for food and medical applications. The company also has custom designed film and sheet extrusion systems and winders installed in Europe, Asia and the Americas for a variety of industrial applications.

Macro’s technical services are offered primarily though the company’s Headquarters in Canada with supporting resources from satellite offices in Europe and Asia.
